Our Story
You can learn a whole story just by looking at a person's hands. Samuel Geishert has been digging his hands in the Earth for the last half of a decade. Each and every slight definition touches on the thousands of plants that he has nurtured, the bodies he has nourished, and the lives he has touched. The last five years had been dedicated to his mentor's farm, Broadview Farm and Gardens located in Marengo, IL. Sam always had the dream to run his own salad farm, but the pieces of the puzzle seemed to have aligned once he found his wife. Life has never been the same nor could we ever wish it to be so.
From humble beginnings, we started with some seeds, a rototiller, tractor, a wheelbarrow, and some watering cans. The poor irrigation situation nearly forced us out of our first year; however, we were blessed with a new well in July 2023 opening our possibilities and opportunities. We manage about an acre of gardens out in the country, though we have intentions for expansion this 2024 season. Our gardening method encourages soil to be turned more often than others in order to keep a consistent supply of young, healthy plants. Depending upon the type of produce, plants are harvested a few times prior to being turned over for another crop. Crop rotation is incredibly important, especially in such close quarters, for pest management and disease control. We practice methods following the naturally grown produce guidelines while we await our certification.
